Coldplay is Looking For Sustainable Touring Options

If you are a fan of Coldplay this may come as a bit of bad news. According to Variety they are choosing not to tour their new album. In fact they are choosing not to tour at all until they can find an environmentally kind way to do so. If it isn’t sustainable they’d rather not do it.

“We’re not touring this album. We’re taking time over the next year or two to work out how our tour can not only be sustainable [but] how can it be actively beneficial.”

Martin told BBC News on Thursday.

They will be having two promotional concerts in Jordan this Friday. If you want to watch either they will both be broadcast live via YouTube. The concerts will take place at sunrise and sunset. So you would have to figure out what those times were in translation to where you are.

Martin also said, “When the band started to become successful, I’d leave a concert venue and see the amount of garbage left behind, and I realized that we had to do something or we wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. I can’t in good conscience tell anyone the planet is in peril and that they should do something about it — unless I’m doing everything I think is possible. Part of that is trying to change the model of how musicians tour.”

Coldplay is big enough now to have a real effect on how other musicians tour. If they can somehow set a precedent then it will help us to fight the climate change, even if it’s just a little bit. It’s a step in the right direction for the industry and hopefully others will take part in changing the way we attend concerts and what kinds of things are offered. If they are going to charge upwards of $7 a drink they should at least have a recycle bin on site.
