Axel Foley from the Beverly Hills Cop series is going to be making a comeback soon. Eddie Murphy who is also working on a sequel to the classic comedy Coming to America is keeping up the momentum. Talking with Collider in an interview promoting Dolemite is My Name(Currently on Netflix), he revealed that he has yet another movie coming up that fans of his previous work can get excited about.

“Yeah that’s what we’re doing after Coming 2 America. We’re doing Beverly Hills Cop. Then the plan is to get back on stage and do stand-up. That’s what I’ll be doing mostly, is stand-up, and Beverly Hills Cop will be like – I keep saying it, these movies and Saturday Night Live is kind of like, I’m looking at it as a bookend. If I decide I just want to stay on the couch forever, I’d ended [my movie career] on a funny note.”

    Murphy to Collider

Beverly Hills Cop premiered in 1984 and starred Eddie Murphy as a Detroit cop looking for revenge after his friend gets murdered. The movie also starred udge Reinhold, John Ashton, Lisa Eilbacher, Ronny Cox, and Jonathan Banks. If this new movie becomes anything like Coming 2 America it will mean we see the return of many of the aforementioned stars.

Beverly Hills Cop was a huge hit in the 80’s making $234 million and was the highest grossing movie in North America at that time. Sequels for the film came out in 1987 and 1994. Beverly Hills Cop II made $153 million domestically and $300 million worldwide. Beverly Hills Cop III made $42 Million domestically and $119 Million worldwide. There is no doubt that since so much time has passed between films that Beverly Hills Cop IV will do more than those.

Coming 2 America will premiere in theaters Dec. 18th 2020
