Tonight the NHK tweeted that there had been an arson attack on the Kyoto Animation Studio. Multiple people are reported dead and dozens are injured. They managed to put out the fire but they are still assessing the damage to the studio and the people that were inside.
“Today, an explosive fire occurs at a studio of an animation production company in Fushimi-ku, Kyoto City, and firefighting says that at least 30 people are injured, of which about 10 are unconscious heavyweights”
The arsonist is a Japanese man in his 40’s who poured “liquid like” gasoline on the building before lighting it on fire. He is now in police custody.
This is the studio that is responsible for bringing us anime like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, K-ON and Free. The company was founded in 1959 and has been producing animation ever since. There is currently no list of what they were working on or any information on how it will effect the shows that are currently being produced this season.
We will keep you updated on the story.
