Marvel Announces New ‘Valkyrie’ Comic Series

We could be closer to getting Valkyrie x Captian Marvel than we thought! If Marvel does decide to let Captain Marvel make a cameo in the upcoming comic series that is. Editor-in-chief CB Cebulski announced that after the War of the Realms event Valkyrie is to have her very own comic run.

Valkyrie was first introduced in Avengers #83 in 1970 and was leader of the Lady Liberators. She was created by Roy Thomas and John Buscema. Her role in those days was to fight for equality among the sexes and battle male chauvinism. Her story has changed throughout the years and the narrative around her recently is much different. Formerly a shield maiden chosen by Odin himself to run the Valkyrior, she has moved on to becoming Brunhilde, the point of contact for worthy souls to show them the way to the halls of Valhalla.

She was chosen by kid Loki to become an Asgardian of the Galaxy and has been a member of the Avengers and the Defenders. We don’t know if any of these will be referenced in the new comic or if she will have a completely different story line. All we know for sure that if you follow the War of the Realms comics they will be setting her up for her own story line.

The comic is to be written by Jason Aaron(Thor and War of the Realms) and Al Ewing(Immortal Hulk). Teased by Aaron is that Valkyrie will be a major plot point in War of the Realms to set her up for her own comic. If we know anything from Aaron’s work at this point we can expect some epic awesomeness from the character. Marvel did not announce the artist or the plot of the upcoming series.

This is probably one of the comics you should be including on your pull to make sure you get every issue. Or you can always sign yourself up at Marvel.com to make sure you are all caught up on the series you care about.

War of the Realms is set to commence this April, so in just a week from now you can start following what is sure to be an intense story. The Synopsis from Marvel is, “featuring Marvel’s greatest heroes such as Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Captain Marvel! The dark sorcerer Malekith wages a war that has spread from one otherworldly realm to the next, razing each one to the ground as his armies move from conquest to conquest. Now there’s only one realm left standing: ours.”
