Fans of Robert Redford and baseball movies will be glad to know that The Natural is coming in 4K Ultra HD and in 4K on participating digital streaming platforms. The film will come out on June 4th in celebration of its 35th anniversary.

The Natural (1984) was based on a 1952 novel by Bernard Malamud detailing the baseball career of fictional character Roy Hobbs. In addition to Redford in the title role, the cast also included Glen Close, Kim Basinger, Robert Duvall, Wilford Brimley, Barbara Hershey, Robert Prosky, and Richard Farnsworth. The Natural was nominated for 4 Academy Awards (Cinematography, Supporting Actress, Music-Original Score, and Art Direction-Set Decoration).

The film has an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a Critics Consensu that concludes: “Though heavy with sentiment, The Natural is an irresistible classic, and a sincere testament to America’s national pastime.”

The 4K Ultra HD disc will include both the theatrical version (run time 138 min) and the Director’s Cut (run time 144 min). Both were fully restored from the original camera negative and both will also include remixed sound in Dolby Atmos. The disc will also include special features including an introduction by Barry Levinson for the Director’s Cut and the theatrical trailer. The Blu-Ray disc includes several featurettes.

So if Spring Fever puts you in the mood for baseball, maybe check out this classic.
