Author: Mary Anne Butler

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.

I have never felt so old as I do right now. Penelope Spheeris’s iconic and important “Saturday Night Live” skit-inspired “Wayne’s World” turns freaking 30 this year. Thats…not ok. But it remains unashamedly one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m not sure why, but it apparently came into my life at just the right time to become a part of my language and fandom. Starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as their “SNL” sketch characters Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar, “Wayne’s World” is one of those 90s films that makes zero sense and ALL the sense at the…

Maybe you’re asking yourself what, exactly, is The Betty White Challenge? No, it has nothing to do with hot dogs, vodka with lemon, or eating a Snickers. It doesn’t even have anything to do with a retirement community in Florida. The Betty White Challenge is about helping animals, a life-long passion of the First Lady of American Television. Back in October of 2020, news came that Simon Kinberg was working on a “Battlestar Galactica” project for Universal. Not just ‘working’ on it, either. Kinberg, who’s credits include things like “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” and that disasterous “Fan4stic,” was writing it. Much as we hoped the project was dead (Sam Esmail’s rebooted tv series which appears to be), Kinberg’s film is very much still in process. He spoke recently with Collider, and gave an update on the project no one really wants. When asked if his film project would tie in directly to Ronald D. Moore’s incredible reimagining of the…

Disney+’s “The Book of Boba Fett” is causing lots of discourse on the internet. Some good, some bad, some wistful. Mostly though, the series is reigniting the debate about just how much of a badass Boba Fett is, and how much of that reputation is earned. That’s not what we’re here to chat about today. Instead, let’s imagine an episode of the series with flashbacks to Fett’s time at Jabba’s palace. Think…right around the time he delivers one Captain Solo frozen in carbonite.
