Some Marvel Studios casting news for you all today- sounds like “Aquaman” star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is heading to the upcoming “Wonder Man” Disney+ series! Chances are you also saw him in “Candyman,” “The Matrix: Revolutions,” and “Watchmen.” He *was* originally in George Miller’s upcoming “Mad Max: Fury Road” prequel film “Furiosa” as well, but had to pull out due to “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” reshoots. “Wonder Man” is being developed by Destin Daniel Cretton (“Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”) exclusively for Disney+. Happy Halloween! Nothing says the horror holiday quite like some good ol Bryan Fuller news. Fuller is currently developing a “Friday the 13th” prequel series titled “Crystal Lake” for A24 and Peacock! Note- a SERIES, not a film. This comes after a long and arduous fight over IP rights after a transition from Paramount to New Line. “I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since,” Fuller said about the news. “When it comes to horror, A24 raises the bar and pushes the envelope and…
As we know, Elon Musk has completed his purchase of social media platform, Twitter. One of the biggest proposed changes the new CEO is toying with is a monthly subscription for those with verified checkmarks. Several celebrities- you know, the main users of the checkmarks- have already been considering leaving the site. Especially after the use of racial slurs rose over 500% mere hours after Musk took over. Then, there was Musks’ now-deleted conspiracy tweet regarding Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelolsi, who was attacked in a home invasion last week. But the big thing this morning…
Recording artist and actress Janelle Monáe may have won Halloween. Not only did she have an absolutely stellar costume, but she also was able to bring an extra element. A “Fifth Element,” if you will. In Luc Besson’s 1997 science fiction film, Maïwenn Le Besco (body) and Inva Mula (voice) give life to a very important character, Diva Plavalaguna. The blue-hued opera singer puts on a concert, but also literally conceals a key plot point- the Mondoshawan elemental stones. Monáe understood the assignment, and even sang! Knowing it takes a village, Monáe also thanked the team behind her incredible look.
The release of Dr. George Miller’s next “Mad Max” film can’t come soon enough. I mean we’ll always wait for another chapter from the Wasteland, but, we’re just really excited for this one. Titled “Furiosa,” it is a prequel of 2015’s absolutely incredible “Mad Max: Fury Road.” Telling the story of Imperator Furiosa (an Oscar worthy role originated by Charlize Theron), expect to see new locations and characters, but perhaps some familiar ones too. Anya Taylor-Joy was tapped to play the younger Furiosa, a move that both saddened and excited fans. We all kind of hoped for more Theron, but,…

While we’re all waiting for news about his ever-in-motion “Star Wars” project, Rian Johnson remains busy. Just next month, we get his “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Tale” on Netflix. Who knows what other things Johnson has been working on in his spare time. Well, we do. Kind of. This morning, Johnson shared the first look at his upcoming series for Peacock, “Poker Face.” It stars Natasha Lyonne (“Orange is the New Black,” “Russian Doll”) and Adrien Brody (“The Pianist,” “Midnight in Paris”), but is NOT the “Poker Face” due out starring Russell Crowe and Elsa Pataky. Also, the entire…
