Picture this, you go to the movie theater with some buddies one night for a 7 PM showing. You all get there around 6:40 to make sure there is plenty of time to grab snacks, find seats, and use the bathroom before the light dim. Then 7 PM rolls around and you get the obligatory warning to silence your cell phones, followed by an ad for snacks, followed by a cacophony of trivia/trailers. Next thing you know, it’s 7:30 and the movie is just starting. We’ve all been there, and if Connecticut Senator Martin Looney gets his way, sitting through…
We are over a decade into the superhero boom “Iron Man” and “The Dark Knight” helped launch. In that time, we’ve watched our heroes switch between the big and small screens, and now streaming platforms. In 2015, Marvel partnered with Netflix to do live-action superhero TV shows again. Resulting in some rather dark, more adult-oriented content with series like “Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s The Punisher,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones,” “Marvel’s Luke Cage,” and “Marvel’s The Defenders.” While shows like “Loki” and “WandaVision” were undeniable hits, they were far less violent fare than what we saw with the Netflix shows. With the upcoming…

Fresh off the monumental success of his “Nosferatu” remake, Robert Eggers is diving head first into his next film “Werwulf.” The movie is set in the 13th century and is said to be a medieval horror movie. During a recent event, Eggers warned audiences that this would be his darkest film yet. And given the filmmaker’s penchant for gloomy tales of gorey gothic horror, that’s saying something. “It’s a medieval werewolf movie. And it’s also the darkest thing I’ve ever written. By far,” he teased. Eggers will direct “Werwulf” from a script he co-wrote with Icelandic poet and novelist Sjón.…
Can you believe “Saturday Night Live” is turning 50 this year? In celebration of its golden anniversary, the show is taking it back to basics. And we mean all the way back to its very first episode from October 11th, 1975. The first episode of “Saturday Night Live” was called “Saturday Night,” and hosted by the late comedy legend George Carlin. The musical guests for the night included Billy Preston and Janis Ian. Alongside skits done by icons like comedian Andy Kaufman and Muppets creator Jim Henson. Not to mention a core cast that included comedy greats Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi,…
If you were into mall culture in the early 2000s, you probably remember Quiksilver, Billabong, Roxy, and Volcom. Unfortunately, the chains’ parent company, Liberated Brands, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. As a result, more than 100 locations across the US will be shutting down. The company has “worked tirelessly over the last year to propel these iconic brands forward, but a volatile global economy, consumer spending changes amid a rising cost of living and inflationary pressures have all taken a heavy toll,” Liberated Brands said in a statement. In the bankruptcy filings, CEO Todd Hymel claimed a “dramatic rise…

Alpake Entertainment has blessed us with the bloody first trailer for the new horror comedy. “Shiver Me Timbers,” is produced, written, and directed by Paul Stephen Mann based on the beloved, now public domain, character created by E.C.…
It doesn’t look like we left the onslaught of streamers canceling highly rated shows in 2024. Peacock has canceled its horror series “Hysteria!” after just one season. Set during the satanic panic of the late 1980s, “Hysteria!” takes place after the disappearance of a beloved varsity quarterback. A struggling heavy metal band of high school outcasts realizes they can capitalize on the town’s sudden fascination with the occult. So they start building a reputation as a Satanic metal band, to further push the chaos. That is, until a bizarre series of murders, kidnappings, and reported supernatural activity starts to happen.…
On March 6th, 2024 entertainment company Rooster Teeth announced it would shut its doors after 21 years of creating content. The closure was revealed after Warner Bros. Discovery made multiple attempts to sell the “unprofitable” division. Thankfully, it has been bought out by the independent company Box Canyon Productions, owned by Rooster Teeth founder Burnie Burns! Now that it is under new/old management, Rooster Teeth plans to refocus on the “innovation, community engagement, and the spirit of creativity that first defined its success.” Founded in 2003, the company was considered an early innovator in digital media. Creating “Red vs. Blue,”…
