Netflix has canceled “1899” after only one season. Series co-creator Baran bo Odar broke the news, in a joint statement with their creative partner, Jantje Freise. The series follows a group of immigrants aboard the steamship Kerberos, making the journey from Southampton in the UK to New York City in the United States. In 1976 it was discovered that a dummy within The Pike’s Laff in the Dark funhouse in Long Beach, CA was actually a real corpse. The body belonged to a man named Elmer McCurdy, this is his story. McCurdy was born in 1880 near Bangor, Maine, to the well-to-do McCurdy family. His mother, Sadie, was 17 and unwed. Elmer’s father is unknown. HBO Max is ringing in the new year by cutting even more programming from the service. As of December 31st, Warner Bros. Discovery removed seasons 16-31 of “Looney Tunes.” These make up 256 of the 511 episodes that had been hosted on the streaming platform. So about half of the iconic series got cut, and we’ll never know if it’s duck or rabbit season. This is just the latest in a wave of removals from HBO Max which seems to be effecting everything, but mostly animated/children’s programming. Paramount+ is starting off the new year with a teaser for their upcoming series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” a prequel to the 1978 classic, “Grease.” The show will follow four high school outcasts who band together to form the iconic girl gang. Filmmaker James Wan (“The Conjuring”) and Jason Blum have teased some interesting ideas. The duo is in the process of a merger between Wan’s Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions. When asked if the success of “Malignant” was a driving force behind the merger, Blum responded, “It’s always a motivating factor for me. In celebration of Festivus, Grammy-nominated singer Courtney Love is airing her grievances with actor Brad Pitt. Love is claiming she didn’t lose the role of Marla Singer in 1999’s “Fight Club” to Helena Bonham Carter, but rather she was fired from the David Fincher film due to rejecting a pitch Pitt made to play her late husband, Kurt Cobain.The story came up while Love was a guest on the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast. Fast food giant Arby’s is closing the year by adding two new limited-time items to the menu. They’re also bringing back their classic White Cheddar Mac ‘N Cheese. Which, while simple, is always a hit with Arby’s diehard fans. It’s even possible these items may become permanent fixtures on Arby’s vegan options.
