Universal Pictures is giving us our first peak at the official logo for their new vampire film, “Renfield.” Nicholas Hoult (“Mad Max: Fury Road” ) stars as the titular character of R.M. Renfield, alongside Ben Schwartz (“Parks & Recreation”), Awkwafina (“Swan Song”), Caroline Williams (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2”), and Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula himself. American horror mainstay Dread Central is currently seeking pitches from black genre fans as part of their Black History Month programming. The website is specifically looking for black writers at any experience level to share their views on the genre. Ideas about specific movies, sub-genres, filmmakers, books, graphic novels, issues with trends, and even pieces about the writers’ experiences as a fan are all fair game. Dread Central’s goal seems to be to generate as many different kinds of articles as possible looking at horror through black perspectives and experiences. “House of the Dragon” co-showrunner and director Miguel Sapochnik has officially left the show. It’s a prequel series that takes place almost 2 centuries before the events of “Game of Thrones,” which Sapochnik also directed/executive produced. “House of the Dragon” focuses on the internal war for succession within House Targaryen. Sapochnik served as co-showrunner, alongside Ryan Condal. Netflix has canceled “1899” after only one season. Series co-creator Baran bo Odar broke the news, in a joint statement with their creative partner, Jantje Freise. The series follows a group of immigrants aboard the steamship Kerberos, making the journey from Southampton in the UK to New York City in the United States. In 1976 it was discovered that a dummy within The Pike’s Laff in the Dark funhouse in Long Beach, CA was actually a real corpse. The body belonged to a man named Elmer McCurdy, this is his story. McCurdy was born in 1880 near Bangor, Maine, to the well-to-do McCurdy family. His mother, Sadie, was 17 and unwed. Elmer’s father is unknown. HBO Max is ringing in the new year by cutting even more programming from the service. As of December 31st, Warner Bros. Discovery removed seasons 16-31 of “Looney Tunes.” These make up 256 of the 511 episodes that had been hosted on the streaming platform. So about half of the iconic series got cut, and we’ll never know if it’s duck or rabbit season. This is just the latest in a wave of removals from HBO Max which seems to be effecting everything, but mostly animated/children’s programming. Paramount+ is starting off the new year with a teaser for their upcoming series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” a prequel to the 1978 classic, “Grease.” The show will follow four high school outcasts who band together to form the iconic girl gang. It will take place at Rydell High four years before the T-Birds and Pink Ladies reigned supreme.
