Author: Heath Andrews

Heath Andrews has been a student of pop culture ever since he found himself to be the only student in 3rd grade who regularly watched "Get Smart" on Nick-At-Nite. Ever since then he's been engrossed in way too much media with a growing collection of music, books, comics, TV on DVD box sets, and a video game collection that could rival a brick and mortar store. Prior to writing for Nerdbot he's written for Review You, MyAnimeList, and various advertising companies. Since 2016 he's run his own YouTube channel under the moniker of The Critical Android where he livestreams video games and uploads podcasts about pop culture and Frasier.

If you’ve been reading Nerdbot articles and see the byline of Heath Andrews, then you’re probably expecting some sort of weird news about some guy being seriously hurt in a gender reveal party held in an Incan ruin with the reincarnated remains of David Bowie while watching season six of “Frasier,” or something. But I have good news for you this time! Nothing tragic, nothing horrible; just something wonderful and wholesome that happened in Sacramento’s, Orchard Park on Saturday. Just when it seemed like a young teen’s birthday party was going to become something terribly lonely, the kindness of strangers…

Sometimes when you’re scanning the industry newsfeeds to see what’s going on, you come across a story that kind of buries the lede, or doesn’t quite recognize which part of its story is the actual story. This is one such case here as Sony Pictures Entertainment just netted a cool $1 billion worth of cash in a sale to the mobile-games company, Scopely. That is definitely news worthy. But even more newsworthy is how they did it, by selling off their online gaming platform, GSN Games. To set the stage for all this, let’s first take a look at what…

In 1981, director/writer/comedian/actor Mel Brooks brought us “History of the World: Part I.” Despite getting a lukewarm critical and commercial reception, the film has gone on to become a cult classic and one of the few Brooks films that is not an explicit parody of other films. And while the “Part I” title was only meant to be a playful nod to Sir Walter Raleigh’s book of the same name, thanks to Hulu and Brooks himself, we’re getting a Part II. The announcement states that the writer’s room will open in October, with production to begin in Spring of 2022.…

French fries are a kind of mystical and magical thing in a way. When french fries are warm to hot, they are among humanities greatest creations. When they are cold and wet, they represent our greatest failures. Lo, that is why they are a pivotal part of the fast food industry, for if they are indeed served fast enough, they will be amazing enough to eat. Far too often, this goal has not been met, and at some point in our lives we’ve all been met with cold french fries. But now, Wendy’s has stood up to say NOT. ANY.…

Sometimes it seems like it was just yesterday when Ebaumsworld was uploading viral videos before the term “viral videos” was being used. Remember that one which was popular every single Christmas with the lights on the outside of the house going off in time to Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s version of “Carol of the Bells?” That’s right, you remember it. Look at that like, 240p image quality right there. I bet you’re looking at that and just waiting for it to buffer aren’t you? Well that video is over fourteen years old and things have changed since then. LED technology has improved…

Sometimes a headline is unfair to its subject in that it can only convey so much. Gary Paulsen will forever be known to millions as the author of the young adult novel “Hatchet,” but in truth, his work was so much more than that. Paulsen wrote a great number of novels aside from the “Hatchet” series that contained themes of nature, humanity’s place in it, and the wonders and perils it presents. He was an ardent dogsledder and competed in the Iditarod, making him a posterchild for the concept of “write what you know.” He passed away at the age…

How far would you go to save the life of your dog? It’s not a happy question to ask, nor is it one that you could probably formulate an answer to right away. What we think we might do versus what we actually do are two drastically different scenarios. It’s also one that Laiha Slayton found herself in on October 4th, 2021, while she was visiting Yellowstone National Park with her family. One of the primary things that Yellowstone is known for is the geothermic activity there which has created a number of geysers and hot springs. Chief amongst these…

Nintendo’s “Metroid” series has a complicated history between its fans and the company that created it. Despite debuting in 1986, the series has only had 15 games released; 10 if you don’t count any remakes, spin-offs, or the “Metroid Prime” compilation. Much of this is supposedly due to the series having more success in America than its native Japan. It has taken a decade of waiting for an original, mainline installment in the series to come along. In 2021, Nintendo finally released “Metroid Dread.” A day later, website Kotaku ran an article about how effective PIRATING “Metroid Dread” is, and…
