Heavy Metal, Incendium Announce 40th Anniversary Taarna Guitar!

To celebrate a landmark anniversary of one of our favorite animated feature films, Heavy Metal Magazine has something really special planned. It’s an absolutely GORGEOUS custom guitar featuring “Heavy Metal” main hero Taarna the Taarakian!

Built by Minarik Guitars, designed by Incendium, Matt Skiff, and airbrushed by the legendary Craig Fraser, this will be a made-to-order piece.

“The illustrious legacy of Heavy Metal is no better represented than by a custom guitar to celebrate this momentous occasion. Balancing art and music along with counter culture is and has been our ethos for these 40 years,” said Heavy Metal Entertainment CEO Matthew Medney.

Fans of “Heavy Metal” will no doubt appreciate the back of the instrument as well, as a homage to the B-17 segment from the film.

Our favorite part (aside from the blacklight additions)? The inclusion and placement of Taarna’s tattoo on the headstock. Check out the absolutely GORGEOUS guitar below:

Some tech specs about this guitar:

MannMade intonatable wraparound bridge, precision machined from aircraft-grade aluminium, fitted with brass saddles and studs. This is fitted with a bone nut and gold Gotoh machine heads, whilst the 3-way toggle connects a DiMarzio AT-1 in the bridge and Gravity Storm in the neck, customized with gold bobbins and nickel poles, continuing the mixed hardware look. Clear speed knobs on the 2 volume and master tone knobs allow the graphics to shine through.

The guitar includes a hard case, certificate of authenticity, and a set of Heavy Metal branded plectrums from Dunlop in a matching tin.

First released on August 7th, 1981, “Heavy Metal” was directed by Gerald Potterton from a screenplay by Daniel Goldberg and Len Blum. Ivan Reitman and Heavy Metal Magazine publisher Leonard Mogel produced.

Rodger Bumpass, Jackie Burroughs, John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Don Francks, Martin Lavut, Marilyn Lightstone, Eugene Levy, Alice Playten, Harold Ramis, Percy Rodriguez, Susan Roman, Richard Romanus, August Schellenberg, John Vernon, and Zal Yanovsky voiced characters in the animated feature.

And let’s not forget that kick-ass soundtrack!

Priced at $19,666, the Heavy Metal guitar will be available exclusively from Incendium for the remainder of 2021. Fans can order here starting….NOW!

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
