Giant Painted Monopoly Board Found Hidden Under Carpet

Being a member of a Facebook group called “Things found in walls, and other hidden findings,” I find stuff like this irresistable. Sometimes its an old photograph, or things that the previous owner wanted to hide from loved ones. This time, it’s a giant Monopoly board that was hidden under carpet for years. Redditor Yamaha234 shared a viral photo of what his in-laws found while remodeling their home.

While tearing up their carpet, my in-laws found a giant monopoly board from pics

The board is of the classic U.S. version of the game. It has Chance and Community Chest spaces, railroad spots, a jail and of course GO. The giant painting appears to have been hand painted by the previous home owners. Some redditors have asked the question why? It appears that this was a popular design for kids playrooms in the past.

They write, “Showed this to my wife, and she reminded me that there’s a whole neighborhood near us, built in the mid-50s, that has game boards painted or tiled onto their basement floors. Seems to have been a selling point or something.”

Giant board games in playrooms is still a popular concept today but we tend to find roll up carpets or hanging designs. Like this scrabble game that you can hang and mount on the wall.

One Redditor writes, “Did this change their plans? (I hope so, think of the grandchildren).”

Yamaha234 replied,  “trying to convince them to cover it in epoxy and do the rest of the flooring around it how they originally wanted.”
