A Rumored Reason Ruby Rose Left “Batwoman”

Yes, we’re still scratching our heads wondering why The CW’s “Batwoman” lead Ruby Rose suddenly announced her departure following the season 1 finale. Ok we really did try to find at least one more “R” word to add into the headline, but you get the gist. This is a rumor, as in sourced by multiple outlets to an “unnamed person,” which means it still stays firmly in the rumor house until that person gives their name.

This particular rumor has to do with the why of Rose’s exit of her first staring role.

According to the usual suspects (Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline), Rose was “unhappy with the long hours required of her as the series lead, which led to friction on the set. It was thus decided by her and the network and studio, Warner Bros. Television, that they would part ways.”

This sounds pretty believable and understandable, all things considered.

There is also Rose’s underlaying health concerns, which the actress has addressed previously on her own Instagram account. She has been very honest about her mental health struggles, as well as that pretty scary emergency surgery she had to go through after a stunt went awry on the “Batwoman” set.

Whatever the underlying reason, we’re sure the decision was not an easy one for Rose to make.

The CW is reportedly going to recast the iconic role for season 2 of the series, and some actresses are already throwing their hats into the ring- like Stephanie Beatriz of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”

We’ll let you know what else we hear about this developing situation.

Season one of “Batwoman” is available to stream through The CW’s official app.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
