Uwe Boll Did a Reddit AMA & It Went Exactly How You’d Expect

German filmmaker Uwe Boll has basically built a career on public scrutiny. His latest film, Citizen Vigilante, stars the equally controversial Armie Hammer and has been championed by people like Elon Musk. So it’s no surprise that when Boll took to Reddit to do an AMA, it didn’t go particularly well.

“Citizen Vigilante,” 2026 (Borvel Film and Event Film Distribution)

Citizen Vigilante tells the story of Sanders (Hammer), a man who decides to play vigilante by hunting down criminals. While his deeds win him favor with the public, a local police chief soon sets their sights on him.

The film is already being poorly received, and not just because of Boll and Hammer’s involvement either. Most of the people killed in the film are immigrants, which has gained it a lot of right-wing support.

During the AMA, Boll was questioned about this several times. When OPMajoradidas asked, “is the main character not an immigrant? hes living in another country and started killing other immigrants and its people.”

Boll responded, “that was the point.” This is also one of the longer responses the filmmaker gave.

“You once said actors are all little whores,” writes SignificanceSea4162. “Aren’t you a whore yourself pleasing right wingers?” To which Boll responded “absolutely” in his native German.

How Did Citizen Vigilante Get Made?

The other big question was how he was still even making movies. Considering his films like House of the Dead, Postal, Rampage, Bloodrayne, and Alone In The Dark were also considered critical disasters. “How do you keep getting work?” HandsomeWinner42 asked.

Boll responded with “money.” To be fair, this could be a nod to an ongoing joke from Postal where he appears as himself and claims his movies are financed with nazi gold.

“Why do you continue to make movies, even after already making some of the worst movies ever?” writes Steve_78_OH. He answers, “to top them all.” Given that Citizen Vigilante currently has a 6% score with critics on Rotten Tomatoes… mission accomplished?

During the AMA, Boll also said he could take Tommy Wiseau (The Room) in a fight. All before his absolutely charming sign-off.

“Guys, why a lot of you are stuck in the past. You love to hate and trash me … watch RAMPAGE, STOIC, ASSAULT ON WALLSTREET, FIRST SHIFT, HEART OF AMERICA, POSTAL, TUNNELRATS, RUN, DARFUR and open your eyes. Forget my name and just watch the movies . Look at the ratings at amazon and you see what the REAL AUDIENCE believes …. ! You are so in love of bashing me that you forgot yourself. I wish you all a great evening and now watch soccer in TV instead of wasting my time here .”

Unfortunately, the way the public is reacting to these movies is because they have seen them. And just because you keep refusing to list House of the Dead among your credits doesn’t mean we forgot. It’s not like this wouldn’t have been the perfect opportunity to promote the sequel you keep threatening promising.
