HBO’s Harry Potter Series Is Looking for its Colin Creevey for Season 2

Casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann are looking for a young actor to cast as Colin Creevey in Season 2 of HBO’s Harry Potter. Auditions are already underway, with some candidates reportedly being recalled.

It’s a huge plus. Creevey appears in six of J.K. Rowling‘s novels, making the Hogwarts student a real regular in any adaptation of the books, which will cover every novel.

He is introduced in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and is seen around Hogwarts with a camera, excitedly covering Harry himself. The films largely gave up on him after Chamber of Secrets, but he has a far fuller arc in the books. He was Harry’s, Ron’s and Hermione’s ally, fought alongside Dumbledore’s Army against Dolores Umbridge, and died alongside them all at Hogwarts in the Battle of Hogwarts, slain by a Death Eater.

Hugh Mitchell portrayed the Muggle-born Gryffindor wizard in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but never returned in the rest of the film series. The TV show is looking to expand on what the films left out.

Set to be more book accurate

The TV series is set up for being more book-accurate than the films. Each book is getting its own full season. That format provides plenty of scope for spotlighting a plethora of characters who were underused on the big screen, and Colin Creevey is a prime example.

This Colin Creevey search wasn’t the only casting news linked to Season 2, however. Recasting is also ongoing for Ginny Weasley after Gracie Cochrane decided to exit the show.

“Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience.”

    Her family released a statement

There will also be an addition of Arthur Weasley. Also, Dobby and the young Tom Riddle, the young Lord Voldemort are expected to be cast. Warner Bros. has kept the casting of Voldemort from any leaks for now.

Season 2 is expected to start production in the UK this fall. This follows the upcoming Christmas premiere of Season 1 (Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone). Showrunner Francesca Gardiner is currently writing and executive producing the series. Mark Mylod is executive producing as well as directing on several episodes.

Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, Neil Blair, and David Heyman of Heyday Films also executive produce the series. It will launch on HBO with a Max exclusive release.
