Scooby-Doo Goes to Japan in Upcoming Anime Series

Back in 1969, the world was introduced to the animated series, Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! We got to meet the titular talking dog and his friends. We’ve got Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma. In the years since we’ve had multiple versions of the show in various forms. There was the alternate timeline of A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, the legitimately supernatural, The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, and that Velma series too. We don’t really speak of that last one. But coming up we’ve got one that looks legitimately interesting in the form of a Scooby-Doo anime.

    Yokoso Scooby-Doo!

Now, this isn’t simply an anime adaptation of Scooby and the gang. Warner Bros. Animation is collaborating with Japan’s OLM Studios to bring Scooby and Shaggy to Japan. The series is called, Yokoso Scooby-Doo! Scooby and Shaggy have decided to visit Japan on a quest for food. Things don’t go exactly as planned though. The duo “unwittingly unleash hundreds of mythical monsters that are causing trouble across the country.” They’ll also be joined by Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo and several new friends.

Long time fans will be happy to know that Shaggy will continue to be voiced by Matthew Lillard. Scooby will be voiced by his long term and legendary voice actor, Frank Welker. We haven’t seen an official anime version of Scooby before. The art style shift should be pretty natural though. Scooby has worked in various forms of hand drawn, digital, and CGI animation. There’s no doubt he’ll work in an anime form. And with familiar voice actors continuing to bring these characters to life, it looks like it’ll be a refreshing chapter in the franchise’s legacy.

    Tubi Time!

There’s no current premiere date for Yokoso Scooby-Doo! but we do know it’ll air on Tubi. That’s right, the free, ad-supported streaming service will be the home to this new series. It’s good to see Scooby and the gang getting some love. Especially after how they were treated at HBO Max. The parent company, Warner Bros Discovery, scrapped the sequel to the 2020 movie, Scoob! Oh, and let’s not forget the travesty that was Velma.

Glad to see you’re thriving Scooby! We’ll see you soon in the land of the rising sun!
