Pocahontas Reportedly the Next Live Action Remake

Disney has been on a stint of taking the movies that we cherished as children and have been adding to the ever growing list of live action adaptations. In an article by Wegothiscovered they say that sources close to them have revealed that the next one that we can expect to get wind of is Pocahontas.

They also say that Disney is already on the search for their Native American Princess to star in the role. There is a chance that instead of the original songs from the movie such as Colors of the Wind and Steady as the Beating Drum that this film will follow Mulan’s lead and forgo the original tunes.

It would be interesting to see if they make these calls with Pocahontas especially since at one point the characters Meeko and Flit were supposed to be talking animals. In fact the reason that they thought that Pocahontas did so poorly(according to Disney’s standards) at the box office was because the animals did not speak like in the other Disney blockbuster hits such as The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King.

This would be a good chance for the company to do it right. The story of Pocahontas is an interesting one and it is one that many people get wrong because of the Disney Films. First of all Pocahontas was a nickname given to Amonute which meant “playful one” or “ill behaved child.” And she wasn’t “of age” either. She was like 11 or 12 when she “saved” John Smith, which is also a debatable fact.

Whether or not this is true must be taken with a grain of salt. It may still be too far in the future to really know what will happen or if and when this will be announced. It is however a good idea and if they do well with Mulan and that turns out to be more historically accurate, they might just realize that true stories are the way to go. Especially since these new live action remakes are targeted toward the kids who grew up with these stories, and are now adults.
