Charles Dance may play Harvey Dent’s father in The Batman: Part II.
The veteran British actor is reportedly in talks to portray Charles Dent, the troubled patriarch who exerts a strong influence over his son.
In the comics, Harvey’s dad is usually depicted as struggling with alcoholism and mental health issues, and they both have resulted in a violent and abusive relationship.
A Good Fit for Dance
Given how Tywin Lannister abuses his children in Game of Thrones, this toxic, patriarchal character would be a good fit for Dance. He also recently portrayed an abusive father as Leopold Frankenstein in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, traumatizing a young man who would become obsessed with curing death.
This news comes on the heels of a long list of new castings to the Dent family tree. Robert Pattinson re-returns as the Dark Knight, Sebastian Stan as the Joker and, now (reported by Deadline), Scarlett Johansson as Dent’s WIFE. Dance would probably share a majority of his scenes with Stan if he is signed on.
The rumors around Charles Dance playing the role of Charles Dent were messy. There have been many instances when big names were rumored to be “turning down” the role of Charles Dent. However, according to Deadline’s Justin Kroll on X, the only real pass was Stellan Skarsgård. Every other rumored name was never a real candidate.

Matt Reeves returns to direct
Matt Reeves returns to direct the film. The project will try to begin filming next month and co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. Filming will be done in London. Robert Pattinson has said “I think it’s going to be a really, really, really special movie. And very, very different to… even from the last one.”
Besides Pattinson and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, nothing is currently known about the plot. It’s still unclear how much of a role Colin Farrell‘s Oz Cobb will have after The Penguin. But Barry Keoghan, who is introduced at the end of the first film as the Joker, will return.
Dance’s deal has not been officially closed so casting is not official. The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled for release on October 1, 2027.
