Our Yacht Charter Dubai Experience as a Small Group

We finally did it last weekend. After talking about it in our group chat for months, six of us booked a boat and headed out into the water. Honestly, I always thought a yacht charter Dubai was one of those things only influencers or millionaires did, but when you split the cost between five or six friends, it actually makes more sense than a fancy brunch. We spent four hours cruising past the Marina and out toward the Palm, and it was probably the most relaxed I’ve felt since moving here. There’s something about being on the water that makes the city noise just… disappear.

Why We Chose a Private yacht experience

Originally, we looked at those big “party boats” where you just buy a ticket, but that felt a bit too crowded for what we wanted. We wanted to play our own music and not worry about strangers bumping into our snacks. Booking a private yacht Dubai meant we had the whole deck to ourselves.

If you are planning this for a small group, here is why it works:

    • Cost sharing: A decent 45ft to 50ft yacht usually costs between 600 to 1,200 AED per hour. Divide that by six people, and you are paying less than a steak dinner.
    • Privacy: You can actually have a conversation without shouting over a DJ.
    • The Route: We told the captain we wanted to see the Burj Al Arab up close, so he changed the route for us. You don’t get that on a public tour.

I remember my friend Sarah was worried about seasickness, but the water inside the Marina is dead calm. Once you get out into the open sea near the JBR area, it gets a bit more “bouncy,” but if you stay on the lower deck or keep your eyes on the horizon, it’s fine.

Picking the Right Boat for 6-8 People

When you start looking for a yacht rental Dubai, the options are kind of overwhelming. You see these massive 100ft ships and then tiny speedboats. For a small group of around six to eight, a 45ft to 52ft yacht is the “sweet spot.” Thanks to Take off Yachts Team to suggest the perfect yacht for us.

Why? Because you get a proper sunbed at the front, a flybridge (the top deck where the captain sits), and a cooled indoor cabin. Trust me, even in April, you’ll want that AC for at least ten minutes to cool down. We went with a 50ft Majesty, and it felt huge for just the six of us.

What Actually Happens on the Trip?

We met at Dubai Marina Mall about 15 minutes before our slot. Pro tip: don’t be late. Your time starts exactly when you booked it, and if you spend 20 minutes finding parking, that’s 20 minutes of sailing you lose.

The crew was great. They helped us carry our bags of ice and drinks onto the boat. Most companies provide water and soft drinks, but we brought our own snacks. We spent the first hour just gawking at the towers in the Marina. Seeing the Cayan Tower (the twisty one) from the water is a completely different vibe than seeing it from the road.

About halfway through, the captain dropped anchor near the JBR beach. A few of us jumped in for a swim. The water was surprisingly warm. One thing though, make sure you ask for a boat with a good sound system. We had a Bluetooth connection and played our own “Summer Vibes” playlist, which made the whole thing feel like a movie.

Steaks on Deck: Our Route Past Ain Dubai and the Burj Al Arab

We finally reached the part everyone was waiting for: the swimming break. The captain steered us toward the lagoon area near JBR, which is the best spot because the water is shallow and super clear. As we drifted, we had a perfect view of Ain Dubai—the massive wheel looks even more giant when you’re looking up at it from the sea level. We also took the full cruise route, circling around to see the Burj Al Arab and the Atlantis. It’s funny how you see these landmarks every day from the road, but seeing the pink walls of Atlantis from the back of a boat feels completely different.

While half of us were splashing around in the water, the crew really stepped up. We had bought some mini steaks and marinated sliders from the supermarket earlier, and the guys on the boat got the electric grill started on the deck. There is a certain kind of “middle-of-the-ocean” hunger that hits you after swimming, and smelling that steak grilling while looking at the Dubai skyline was easily the highlight of the whole yacht trip dubai. They even toasted the buns for us without us asking. Honestly, having someone else handle the cooking while you just sit there with a cold drink in your hand is the ultimate luxury.

    Breaking Down the Costs

Is it expensive? It depends. Here is a rough breakdown of what we spent for our 4-hour afternoon trip:

    1. Yacht Hire: 3,200 AED (800 AED per hour).
    2. Food/Drinks: We spent about 400 AED at the supermarket on chips, sliders, and fruit.
    3. Tips: We gave the crew 100 AED because they were constantly refilling our drinks and taking photos for us.

Total: 3,700 AED. Split by 6 people, that is roughly 615 AED each. For four hours of luxury, that’s a steal in this city.

    Final Thoughts on Our Trip

If you are thinking about doing a yacht charter Dubai, just do it. Stop waiting for a “special occasion” like a birthday or an anniversary. Sometimes just having a Saturday off with your best friends is enough of a reason. The photos are great, sure, but the actual feeling of the wind on your face while you look at the skyline is what you’ll actually remember.

We are already planning our next one for sunset. Everyone says the “Golden Hour” on the water is the best time to be out there, and I’m starting to believe them.

Thinking of booking your own day out? You can check out some of the options over at Takeoff Yachts to see which boat fits your group size. Just remember to bring your sunscreen and a good playlist.
