Jason Statham is finally getting his own closed-containment action movie. In his forthcoming thriller Mutiny, released on August 21, 2026, he’s perfectly suited to make the movie fans have been waiting for him to shoot.

Statham plays Cole Reed, a former Special Forces soldier and ex-New York cop. He’s now working private security for a billionaire shipping magnate. When his boss is found dead, Reed is framed and forced to go on the run. He boards a cargo ship on a one-man mission of revenge for his boss’ murder. Then he finds an international conspiracy far wider than he suspected. That conspiracy, as the trailer demonstrates, stretches all the way through a human trafficking ring contained within the ship’s cargo containers.

It’s a classic setup for a “Die Hard on a [blank]” movie. One man, a contained location, and a host of ruthless bad guys who chose his wrong.

    Directors and Producers

The film is directed by Jean-François Richet and written by Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis. Statham produces through his company Punch Palace Productions, alongside Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures. Richet and Davis previously collaborated on Gerard Butler‘s 2023 action flick Plane, which garnered a cult following.

Lauren Bixby, SVP of Co-Productions and Acquisitions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said, “Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world,” adding that the studio can’t wait to “bring Mutiny to life.”

Alongside Statham, the film stars Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller, Ramon Tikaram, Arnas Fedaravičius, Jason Wong, and Adrian Lester. Principal photography began in September 2024 in the United Kingdom. Part of filming locked down the entrance to One Canada Square at Canary Wharf.

Additional filming took place in Malta, wrapping on November 25.

Lionsgate originally dated the film for January before shifting it into late summer 2026, giving Mutiny a bigger theatrical runway.

After Mutiny, Statham’s next project is The Beekeeper 2, set for January 2027. He also has the meta action-comedy Jason Statham Stole My Bike, directed by David Leitch, in the pipeline.

Mutiny opens in U.S. theaters August 21, 2026.
