Glow in the Dark Ramen is Here in LA

    I mean- It’s glow-in-the-dark Ramen

    Glow-in-the-dark ramen, Nakamura.ke

Nakamura.ke Mobile Kitchen allows itself the title of the world’s “first” glow-in-the-dark ramen experience. Part noodle shop, part theater, and an all-around kind of strange (in a good way) vibe–and it’s coming to L.A. now- July.

    Here’s how it works:
Grab a ticket in advance for a timed session from July 3 to 21.
When you arrive you will start your theatrical like experience as you are greeted by the Nakamuras, a family of yōkai, mystical spirits from Japanese legend. They’ll tell you their story about ghosts and ramen, leading you into the spooky, neon and black lit ramen shop for an eerie meal.

The mastermind behind the project is industrial designer Ami Sueki. She partnered with her friend Courtney Hammond of creative agency Dashboard to bring this idea out of the dark, so to speak.
According to Sueki herself, after losing their parents in a storm, the seven Nakamura children spend their days roaming the world searching for them (and making ramen). Every aspect of the Nakamura.ke experience is rooted in that narrative, from the props to the intermingling actors and environment. “We wanted a soul-to-soul interaction,” she says. “We wanted to bring the Nakamuras to life.”

Making the food glow was a tricky bit for the Nakamura.ke team. Unfortunately, no… it is not the supernatural, it’s actually mostly done with quinine. The same ingredient that gives your gin-and-tonic its distinctive flavor also happens to be responsive to black light.

Will you be grabbing a ticket to the experience?
