Fresh off the success of “Scream 7,” writer/director Kevin Williamson has hit the ground running on new projects. In a recent interview, he revealed he is developing a series based on Universal’s iconic stable of monsters.
“Netflix and Universal were very kind to let me go direct “Scream VII” and put some projects on hold, and now I’m focused on those. The one I’m writing right now is a show,” Williamson told Esquire. “You might call it an adult “Vampire Diaries.” It’s based in the Universal monster land. I get to play with some of those characters like Dracula and Frankenstein and the Wolf Man and have fun there.
“The Vampire Diaries” is a supernatural teen drama that Williamson co-created with Julie Plec. It’s set in the fictitious town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, where creatures of unspeakable horror lurk. The show centers on a teen girl torn between two vampire brothers. It aired on The CW for 8 seasons from 2009 to 2017.
When asked if he’d like to revisit other franchises as he did with “Scream 7.”
“No. I mean, right now I feel like I’m getting old,” Williamson explains. “My time is ticking, and I have so many stories to tell. As much as I love “Scream,” you don’t want to go backwards. With “Scream VII,” I felt like I was able to find a way to go backwards so that I could go forward. And I don’t know if that’s true for everything.”
