Radcliffe Steps In to Defend the New Harry Potter Cast

Daniel Radcliffe has taken on many unique roles, but is still undeniably best known for the “Harry Potter” films. With the upcoming HBO series adaptation, Radcliffe is imploring people to stop asking the new cast about the films’ cast.

While both adaptations are based on J.K. Rowling’s books of the same name, the actor wants these young performers to have the ability to explore the characters.

    Radcliffe’s Request

Radcliffe believes that the consensus on social media is to “look after these kids,” he told ScreenRant. “…if you mean that, if everyone really means that…one of the things you can do for me is not ask about us, me, Emma [Watson], Rupert [Grint], all the time. I would like not to be like weird spectral phantoms in  these children’s lives and just to let them like get on with cuz it is it’s going to be a new thing and it’s going to be a different thing”

The actor has been very upfront about what a surreal and daunting task adapting the books was as a child. Now, he wants to ensure this new crop of spellcasters doesn’t have to live in the shadow of the beloved movies as well.

Dominic McLaughlin has already been cast to take on the role of Harry Potter. Co-starring Arabella Stanton as Hermione, and Alastair Stour as Ron.

And Radcliffe is already convinced that McLaughlin “is going to be better than me and better than I was,” and hopes the kids “have the best time” filming.

When McLaughlin was cast, Radcliffe sent him a letter: “I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.”

Because Harrys need to look out for eachother.

We’ll keep you posted on updates about HBO’s “Harry Potter” series as the project develops. You can check out Radcliffe’s full interview with Screen Rant below:
