Woman Dies Riding Revenge of the Mummy at Universal

Of the many brands Universal Pictures and Universal Studios has at its disposal, the classic monster movies are a highlight. We’ve seen “The Mummy” go through several iterations over the decades, and the undead Egyptian has his own ride in the form of The Revenge of the Mummy. The indoor, high speed dark coaster is over 20 years old. It exists as a tie-in to “The Mummy” franchise of that time, complete with Brandan Fraser and other cast members reprising their roles. The taped segments combine with intense launches and drops to make for a three minute thrill ride. So, what happened that resulted in the death of a 70 year-old woman?

In November 2025, an unnamed woman was found unresponsive on the ride at Universal Orlando and taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. This information was only found out recently when Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services issued a report on the situation. While it makes sense a theme park wouldn’t want to broadcast the death of one of their guests on a ride, normally this is the kind of news that we hear about shortly after it happens and not months after. The report did not specify what the cause of death was.

It’s distinctly possible the reason for the lack of information is because the underlying cause was a personal medical nature, as opposed to a ride accident or malfunction. It could just be a terrible coincidence that the guest was on the ride when something happened that took her life, like a cardiac incident. Of course, there’s also the possibility something about the ride exacerbated a pre-existing condition, resulting in her passing. Either of those situations seems far more likely than a problem with the ride itself. Then again, this also raises questions about whether she should have been on the ride or not if she did have known medical issues.

We’ll keep eyes out for updates and more information so we can try to get answers to this odd circumstance. The ride remains open in both Universal Studios Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood.
