Netflix and Chernin Entertainment are partnering on a new series inspired by the Kennedy family. “Kennedy” is based on Fredrik Logevall’s book “JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956.” While the series is still in development, Michael Fassbender (“The Agency”) is already attached to play patriarch Joseph Kennedy Sr.
“Kennedy” was announced almost two years ago. At the time, it was described as America’s version of “The Crown.”

The series will focus on the intimate lives, loves, rivalries, and tragedies that shaped this iconic dynasty. The 8 episode 1st season will take place in the 1930s, chronicling Joe (Fassbender) and Rose Kennedy‘s improbable ascent. Along with the lives of their nine children, including rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden boy older brother.
Thomas Vinterberg is set to direct and executive produce the upcoming show. Sam Shaw will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kaitlin Dahill will executive produce for Chernin Entertainment. Logevall will also executive produce with Eric Roth, Lila Byock, Anya Epstein, Dustin Thomason, and Anna O’Malley.
We’ll keep you posted on updates about the Netflix series “Kennedy” as the project develops.
