Sending Off “Solar Opposites” (For Now)

We’re saying farewell (hopefully only temporarily) to “Solar Opposites” and our favorite Shlorpian family. This week sees the release of season six of one of the best sci-fi shows out there and it does not disappoint. You’ll get to revisit all of your tangential favorite tales including The Wall (a “b-story” centered around humans shrunken down that has become an ode to classic cinema). It also wouldn’t be justice without seeing a resolution to the drama of the  SilverCorps.

Of course the majority of the season centers around the Solar Opposites themselves, who over the last six seasons have done what many a show (live action or animated) fail to do – shown actual character growth. We had the opportunity to speak to executive producers Mike McMahan (who is also the co-creator) and Josh Bycel about what it was like to tie up loose ends – though there remains hope that this isn’t the end for the family gracing our screens.

We also spoke to stars Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack who are as ridiculous and charming as their onscreen counterparts, Yumyulack and Jesse.

The interview with the producers contains mild spoilers.

    More about Solar Opposites:

“Solar Opposites” centers around a team of four aliens who are evenly split on whether Earth is awful or awesome. Korvo (Dan Stevens) and Yumyulack ( Giambrone) only see the pollution, crass consumerism, and human frailty while Terry (Thomas Middleditch) and Jesse ( Mack) love TV, junk food and fun stuff.

Once their alien diamond-making machine gets destroyed, the Solar Opposites must face their greatest challenge yet: living their expensive lives on a budget! When their consumerist habits and expensive hobbies are gone, only their true selves will remain … but will they like who they find? ALSO: The epic story of the people of The Wall has all built to this thrilling and shocking conclusion.

Season Six of “Solar Opposites” is streaming now on Hulu.
