It was Netflix, in the streaming platform, with the board game adaptation; that’s who did it! To paraphrase the ending of a boardgame, that’s how you wrap up a game of the classic mystery title, Clue. Originally titled Cluedo in its native UK and published in 1949, the board game has lived on over the decades thanks to its combination of luck, logical deductions, and its premise of solving a murder. Doesn’t hurt that it had a cult classic film adaptation either. Well now it’s becoming a competition series as alluded to earlier in the paragraph, thanks to Netflix.
According to Netflix, Players will step into a real-life game of deduction and deception, facing both physical and mental challenges along the way. To win, they’ll have to outwit opponents and answer three big questions: who, where, and with what. If the contestants guess correctly, they’ll add money to the prize pot, but if their suspicions are wrong, they could face elimination. They’ll also cross paths with familiar suspects like from the original board game. Viewers can expect suspense, surprises, and plenty of red herrings.
“Like so many families and friends over the years, we’ve gathered around the table trying to figure out who did it — making CLUE a source of nostalgia that everyone shares,” Jeff Gaspin, V.P. of Unscripted Series, Netflix said. “Thanks to the incredible vision of our partners at Hasbro, IPC, and B17, we’re delivering a fresh, imaginative whodunit competition that will invite today’s audiences into that iconic world.”
Funnily enough, various Clue projects have been discussed and in the works, including a movie spearheaded by Ryan Reynolds. There was also a tv series in development. It seems like this Netflix series is that project, as it’s been confirmed that Sony is producing the upcoming show. It’s also part of a bigger push by Hasbro to get some of its properties out into the public eye more including Monopoly, “Transformers,” and Magic: The Gathering.
Neither Netflix or its producing partners have mentioned a release date for the upcoming Clue competition series, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more. Including who did it, with what, and in what room of the mansion.
