The lineup for Los Angeles‘ Beyond Fest will be announced later this week, but some announcements are just too exciting. Beyond is partnering with the American Cinematheque for “Está Vivo: The Gods and Monsters of Guillermo del Toro.” This will be a 12-film retrospective celebrating Guillermo del Toro’s 30 years in the industry!

“Guillermo del Toro’s films have inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike in a way unlike any other artist we’ve experienced […] To welcome him and celebrate his artistic vision on this scale truly honors who he is as both a creative force of nature and a proudly obsessive servant of Cinema,” says Evrim Ersoy, Head of Programming at Beyond Fest.

    Retrospective Line Up

These 12 films will be shown across four curated blocks of programming hosted by del Toro. Each night will explore different themes in his works, like monsters, humanity, and imagination.

The first block will be “In The Mood For Love”, a triple bill featuring “Crimson Peak,” the Oscar-winning “The Shape of Water,” and a brand-new version of “Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light.”

Then comes the “Sketch to Screen” block celebrating del Toro’s legendary love for comic books. Including screenings of “Hellboy,” “Hellboy II: The Golden Army,” and “Blade II.”

The “Early Years” block is pretty straightforward and will show 4K restorations of “Cronos,” “The Devil’s Backbone,” and the director’s cut of “Mimic.”

“Está Vivo” will conclude with “The Revolution,” a night dedicated to the fantastical world of “Pan’s Labyrinth.” del Toro will also host a pre-screening Q&A for this event.

There will be two more special screenings of “Pacific Rim” and “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio” at The Los Feliz 3 Theatre.

“Está Vivo: The Gods and Monsters of Guillermo del Toro” will run from September 23 to October 6. Tickets will go on sale September 4th on American Cinematheque’s website.
