Seth MacFarlane’s “Ted” Gets Animated Series, Teaser

Maybe its the ubiquity of teddy bears in bedrooms, stores, and popular culture in general, but you just can’t shake these things. You also can’t shake Seth MacFarlane. The “Family Guy“ creator has pumped out so many other projects ranging from the still running, “American Dad,” to the live-action series, “The Orville,” to albums of songs from the great American songbook. Combine these two unshakeable forces and you get, “Ted.” Mash them even harder together and you get the upcoming “Ted: The Animated Series.“

As a franchise, Ted has had a pretty odd trajectory. The 2012 original film did extremely well at the box office. It’s 2015 sequel was still a success, but pulled in half of what its predecessor did. Seemed like diminishing returns had put an end to any sequels. And yet, almost a decade later, Peacock decides to start up a prequel series to the show that does well enough to earn itself a second season. We’re still waiting on season two, but come today and we find out that there’s a new animated series coming to Peacock!

In a short video uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) we get to see some of the principal players from the films, returning to voice their respective characters. Seth MacFarlane, Mark Wahlberg, Jessica Barth, and Amanda Seyfried, will be joined by Kyle Mooney and Liz Richman to bring the gang to life for new adventures. Considering Seyfriend’s character of Sam was introduced in “Ted 2,” it seems like the series will play as a continuation of the film series as opposed to more prequel material or something interstitial between the first two films.

“Ted: The Animated Series” has no release date, only that it’s “coming soon” to Peacock. Also, as noted, we’re still waiting on that second season of the live-action series. As it turns out, there’s a lot more Ted in our futures that any of us really planned on. If it brings the laughs, that could turn out to be a good things. We’ll continue to keep you updates as we find out more.
