“Lord of the Rings” Sim “Tales of the Shire” Delayed Again

It’s a sad day for Frodo and his friends. The much-anticipated game simulation of day-to-day life in “Tales of the Shire” has been delayed. Again. The “Lord of the Rings“ inspired title was slated to hit consoles and PC in late 2024. Obviously, that didn’t happen. In fact, it won’t hit it’s spring of 2025 drop date either.

“Tales of the Shire” (Wētā Workshop)

In September of 2024, the game’s developers announced the release date was not going to be met. Regrettable, sure. That being said, it’s far too common in modern game for things to be released in a haphazard state instead of being delayed to work on it further. The intended release date was then moved to March 25th, 2025.

Cozy games are meant to be very accessible and relaxing; bugs and glitches certainly don’t help that. Additionally, depending upon the scope of what you can do in the game, the number and depth of the features can require more work than additionally thought. Remember when “No Man’s Sky” initially released and it lacked much of what it touted to have? Over time a lot of that has changed and the game is finally living up to and beyond its initial hype.

Then you have a case like “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” which was delayed time and time again and turned out horribly. The hope being Wētā Workshop knows what they’re doing in whatever fine tuning they’re performing.

“We’re taking a little longer to ensure that every Hobbit, on every platform, can enjoy the same cosy (sic) experience,” the game’s official social media accounts posted. The wording of that could indicate that the issue is less about the development in general and more about making it work for various platforms. Given that the game is releasing on the Switch as well as the PS5 and Xbox Series, it could easily be related to the difference in those consoles.

The old saying goes “a delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.” While that’s not always true, it certainly can be. We’re hopeful this delay means a smoother game for everyone who wants to cook second breakfast, design their own home, and enjoy a lovely day where the glaring Eye of Sauron is not a concern for a change.

“Tales of the Shire” is now hopefully releasing on July 29th, 2025.
