4DX is a motion picture technology that enhances movie presentation with environmental effects such as motion-synchronized seats, wind, rain, lights, and scents in addition to the film’s audiovisuals. The technology was developed by the South Korean company CJ 4DPLEX. I recently wrote a review of my experience watching Alita: Battle Angel in 4DX.
Now Paramount is announcing that its upcoming films Wonder Park and Pet Sematary will be released in 4DX. Mark Viane, President of International Theatrical Distribution at Paramount had this to say about the technology:
“We can’t wait to share Wonder Park and Pet Sematary with audiences everywhere in 4DX theatres this year, and expand our partnership with CJ 4DPLEX,” and “Paramount Pictures is always looking to create new and engaging experiences for audiences, and we are excited to utilize new technologies like 4DX to showcase great stories in unique new ways.”
Based on the previews, Wonder Park could certainly benefit from the motion-controlled seats for its action and roller coaster scenes. And if the Pet Sematary trailers weren’t creepy enough, imagine the movie with fog or scent effects, or actually feeling the blood splatter on your face!
As Jong Ryul Kim, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX says, “This is one of the most exciting ways to experience the year’s biggest movies and we look forward to bringing additional titles in the latter half of 2019.”
So, if you have a 4DX theater near you, consider if you want to try it out with either of these upcoming releases.
