Doctor Strange Director Sparks Namor Rumors

Fans have been clamoring for Namor the Sub-mariner to appear in the MCU for years, but issues with licensing have prevented it since Namor’s rights were sold to Universal. Marvel has since gotten them back but Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has said:

“Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in.”

Now a tweet from Scott Derrickson, the director of Doctor Strange, has fueled rumors about a possible appearance of Namor in Doctor Strange 2. He posted an image from the cover of “Fear Itself: The Deep #1” that shows Doctor Strange underwater with Namor swimming up to him. Derrickson has since deleted the post but not before getting fans excited about a possible appearance of Namor in the MCU.

The director himself was quick to dispel rumors. “As my header says, my tweets are never teases or hints. I just liked the panel.”

Namor the Sub-mariner debuted in 1939 and is credited as the first comic book antihero. He is the mutant son of a human and an Atlantean. He has appeared with the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Defenders, Invaders, and Illuminati. He has also at times been on the opposing side.

Considering the phenomenal success of Aquaman, it would be no wonder if Marvel wanted to feature their own Atlantean in a film. Could that film be Doctor Strange 2? Probably not, but that won’t stop fans from speculating.
