Ezra Miller Writing a ‘Flash’ Script

Ezra Miller who was first cast as The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Batman V. Superman has decided to take it upon himself to write a new script for a “Flash” movie. According to THR he could submit his script as early as next week.

He is currently writing alongside comic book veteran Grant Morrison who is known for his work on Doom Patrol and The Invisibles along with MANY others. This is a bid for Ezra to stay in the role of the Flash before Warner Bros. decides to go in another direction.

Ezra Miller has been waiting to star in a Flash movie since back in 2016. Then they were supposed to be actively in production with the film when the director at the time, Rick Famuyiwa walked out due to creative differences. This wasn’t even the first director to exit the film as Seth Grahame-Smith had left prior. Ezra was still hopeful that the film would continue when he talked to Collider when the director exited. The film was to release March 2018 but due to shuffling of personnel it never got made.

There is a competing script with the one that Miller is submitting that is written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein who have been invested in the idea of this project since 2018. Their background is more lighthearted with SpiderMan: Homecoming in their credited past work. With the way DC movies are going it could be really difficult for Miller to pitch against these two.

This could mean the end of Miller as The Flash if his script is not picked. He is said to want a darker take on the material. We don’t know if that means it would coincide with Batman V. Superman or Justice League but it does mean something other than what has been making Warner Bros. money recently. Plus Ezra though he does have a more baby face is getting older. So in order to keep him cast as the titular Barry Allen he may need to submit a script where he is just slightly older.

Aquaman has made a billion dollars worldwide and with the success of that film and the lighter more fun look on superheroes it would make more sense for the studio to keep it on par with that. Zachary Levi’s Shazam! is one of the most anticipated films coming up this year and has an energetic new outlook on what a superhero film could be. Shazam! is better for it and with reviews coming in from the screenings we know that it is going to be a major hit.

We still have no dates for The Flash and nothing has been set in stone. All we know is that it is in the ether and could possibly start production in the next few years if all goes well. We will keep you updated on news as it rolls in.

Shazam! will be in theaters April 5th.
