“The Hadmaid’s Tale” Gets Timely Teaser for Final Season

Who is ready to pretend that Hulu’s dystopian drama series “The Handmaid’s Tale” is still an implausible escape from reality? The (fictional) series will soon enter its 6th and final season this April. Earlier today, the streamer released a dramatic teaser trailer showing that June Osborne/Offred (Elisabeth Moss) and crew won’t go down without a fight.

A sentiment that couldn’t possibly apply to the state of the world we actually live in.

“The Handmaid’s Tale” is based on a 1985 novel of the same name by Margaret Atwood. It tells the story of Gilead, a totalitarian society created in the fallen United States after a second civil war. Gilead is ruled by a deeply fundamentalist regime that believes women are the property of the state. When they start facing rapidly declining birth rates, the few remaining fertile women are deemed “Handmaids” and forced into sexual servitude. Much of the story centers around Handmaid Offred and her quest to find the daughter that was taken from her.

    “The Handmaid’s Tale” Season 6

The final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has Offred pulled back into the war to take down Gilead. Alongside Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) who have joined the resistance. All while Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) desperately tries to reform Gilead. We will even see Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) start to face the hell they have wrought.

The series also stars Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, Ever Carradine, and Josh Charles.

“They believed that these garments that they put on our bodies told the world who we are,” Offred narrates to open the trailer. “To mark us, they put us in red — the color of blood. They forgot that it’s also the color of rage. The dress became our uniform, and we became an army.” You just can’t beat a classic like turning symbols of oppression into beacons of hope.

What follows is a montage of clips clearly showing that The Handmaids are organized and ready to strike back. Including a shot of them neatly lined up, acting more like an army than a group that’s expected to just have babies.

The 6th and final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” will premiere on Hulu on April 8th with three new episodes. After that, it will have weekly installments until the finale on May 27th.
