Fight Breaks Out in SoCal Costco Over Pokémon Cards

Before the days of online sales and bots sniping people out of being able to purchase an item, there were brick and mortar stores. Admittedly that statement leans into hyperbole, but you are more oft than not to hear about online woes as opposed to altercations in stores. Yes, Black Friday and Christmas altercations still happen but it normally takes a pretty hot ticket item for that to happen.

Imagine our confusion when we found out a fight broke out earlier this month in a Costco over Pokémon cards.

The enduring popularity of Pokémon is staggering when you think about it. Most media franchises have a peak and then fall into obscurity only to be revived years down the line. Pokémon has been going strong for almost three decades now and it’s bigger today than it ever was. There was a man who tried stealing over $30,000 worth of rare Pokémon cards only to get tackled down by some mixed martial artists. But the cards’ popularity is apparently strong enough to make grown men fight in a Costco.

X (formerly Twitter) user DisguisedToast posted footage of two men getting into a pretty big scrape over boxes of cards. A man in black attire holds two boxes in his arms, after which a man in green attempts to tear the boxes from his hands. He eventually winds up gripping them from behind the other man’s back. The man in black yells at the man to get off him and attempts to throw an elbow in his face. The people in the store look on in confusion and tell someone to call the police department.

Reports indicate police were not called, and we don’t know how exactly the situation resolved. If we had to break down the fight, it looks like one man tried to use the attack “bind” which succeeded. The other man then tried to use a mach punch attack but it’s not very effective against his opponent. This is what happens when you put two fighting types against each other with very limited move sets.
