We have some great news coming out of DC Studios. Company co-head James Gunn has confirmed “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has begun filming! He was even nice enough to give a sneak peek at the upcoming movie.

“Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El,” Gunn posted on X (formally Twitter). “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is every inch the unique #Supergirl envisioned by Tom King, Bilquis Evely & Ana Nogueira.”

    “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” is based on the Eisner-nominated comic mini-series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. The story centers around a young alien girl named Ruthye who teams up with Supergirl. The pair set out on a journey to get revenge against Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who killed Ruthye’s father.

The film adaptation is directed by Craig Gillespie (“Dumb Money”) from a script by Ana Nogueira (“Hightown”). It stars Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) as Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. The recently confirmed David Krumholtz (“The Santa Clause,” “Oppenheimer”) and Emily Beecham (“1899”) have been cast as her parents. Eve Ridley (“3 Body Problem”) will play Ruthye, Matthias Schoenaerts (“Amsterdam”) will play Krem, and Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”) will cameo as alien bounty hunter Lobo.

It seems that Gunn hand-picked Alcock for the titular role. “In case you missed this exciting news yesterday,” he wrote on Threads. “Strangely, Milly was the FIRST person I brought up to Peter (Safran) for this role, well over a year ago, when I had only read the comics.”

“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” is expected to hit theaters on June 26th, 2026. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the project as it develops.
