Kyle MacLachlan, Sting and More React to David Lynch’s Passing

This is an incredibly sad day for us here at Nerdbot. Many of us are huge fans of David Lynch, and the news of his passing has left a unique hole in our hearts. If every person and soul is special, then David’s was somehow even more distinctly special in a way that no one else could ever be. These sentiments are echoed by many of those who worked with him, perhaps none so as profoundly as frequent collaborator, Kyle MacLachlan.

    “Dune” 1984, Universal Pictures

“David was in tune with the universe and his own imagination on a level that seemed to be the best version of human,” the “Twin Peaks,“ and “Dune“ star posted on Instagram. “He was not interested in answers because he understood that questions are the drive that make us who we are. They are our breath.”

Speaking of “Dune,” MacLachlan was joined on that set by the musician-turned-actor, Sting. “David was a modern giant of the avant garde,” he said on his Instagram in tribute to the director. “I am so proud to have worked with him on the first Dune movie.”

Other directors reacted as well. Including Francis Ford Coppola. “I am astounded and heartbroken I can’t express with any words the profound loss of the great David Lynch my friend,” Coppola posted.

David Lynch, “The Fablemans” Amblin, Universal

“I loved David’s films. ‘Blue Velvet,’ ‘Mulholland Drive’ and ‘Elephant Man’ defined him as a singular, visionary dreamer who directed films that felt handmade,” Steven Spielberg said in a statement. “I got to know David when he played John Ford in ‘The Fabelmans.’ Here was one of my heroes—David Lynch playing one of my heroes. It was surreal and seemed like a scene out of one of David’s own movies. The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice. His films have already stood the test of time and they always will.”

“He was brave, brilliant, and a maverick with a joyful sense of humor,” Nicolas Cage, who worked with Lynch on “Wild at Heart,” said. “I never had more fun on a film set than working with David Lynch. He will always be solid gold.”

Outside of Hollywood, video game developer and massive film buff Hideo Kojima had Lynch on his mind after the news of his passing. Kojima was a huge fan of Lynch and had his development team watch parts of “Twin Peaks” before working on the game Death Stranding.

We watched TWIN PEAKS THE RETURN E1-3 this afternoon at Kojima Productions. It is not directly related to DEATH STRANDING but I wanted to let them know the direction and the world of Lynch. I ask them to watch the rest if they liked it. Also gave away KJP cap at the end.???? pic.twitter.com/AN8U60Uktg

This is the kind of passing that will continue to ripple through the world for days to come. David Lynch was one of the most influential creative minds that Hollywood will ever have pass through it. His works have transcended decades and cultures to move people and test the limits of their imaginations. Through the sadness we feel, we remember the works he left us with. If all lives must end at some time, then at least David’s was one that left so much for us to cherish.
