Buddy The Elf Spotted at LA Kings Hockey Game

Time has apparently not been kind to Buddy, played by Will Ferrell in 2003’s “Elf.” Over the weekend, Ferrell dressed up as a disheveled version of the character to attend a hockey game. This version came complete with a five o’clock shadow and a fake(???) cigarette.

The December 29th match was between the Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers. Ferrell, is a long time fan of the Kings and often attends their games. Just normally not dressed as an elf who has fallen on hard times.  During the game he told a broadcaster for FanDuel Sports Network that “it was a tough holiday season” and “he’s looking for a Kings win.”

    “Elf”

“Elf” is a Jon Favreau–directed comedy that follows a human raised by elves as he travels to New York City to meet his biological father (James Caan). The film quickly became a tradition for many families during the Christmas season. Earlier this year, Farrell told the Messy podcast that the late Caan was initially concerned about the film.

“James Caan, may he rest in peace, we had such a good time working on that movie,” Ferrell recalled. “He would tease me. I like to do bits but I’m not like ‘on’ all the time. In between set ups, [Caan] would be like, ‘I don’t get you. You’re not funny.’ And I’m like, ‘I know. I’m not Robin Williams.’ And he was like, ‘People ask me: “Is he funny?” And I’m like, “No, he’s not funny.”‘ It was all with love but at the same time…”

However, Caan took back his stance once he saw the final product. “He was like, ‘I’ve got to tell you: I thought everything you were doing while we were filming was way too over the top,” Ferrell explained. “Now that I see it in the movie, it’s brilliant.”

We are sure Caan would still be proud of Buddy, even in his current state. You can check out footage from the game below:
