Snoop Dogg’s Death Row Games Adapting “In Time” for “Fortnite”

A game based on the 2011 film “In Time,” starring Justin Timberlake has launched on “Fortnite.” It is part of a larger deal with Snoop Dogg‘s Death Row Games to adapt New Regency‘s film library into video games for the platform.

“In Time” was written and directed by Andrew Niccol (“Anon”), starring Timberlake (“Reptile”), Amanda Seyfried (“The Dropout”), Cillian Murphy (“28 Years Later”), and Olivia Wilde (“Babylon”). The story is set in a dystopian future where people stop aging at 25, but are engineered to live one more year. Those with means can acquire time like currency, giving them a shot at immortal youth.

    “In Time” The Video Game

Death Row Games’ is collaborating with Good Game Champ, who developed the game using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). The team chose to start with “In Time,” since it’s “a natural fit for the dynamic UEFN platform, delivering fans an unparalleled ‘AAA gaming experience.’”

Making sense of the rather perplexing choice of adapting a movie that didn’t do particularly well at the box office. Grossing only $37,520,095 in the US and Canada, and $173,930,596 internationally, on a $40 million dollar budget. It’s 36% critic and 51% audience scores on Rotten Tomatoes don’t indicate it’s found an audience 13 years later, either.

“We’re thrilled to be part of this exciting new era of innovation in gaming and storytelling alongside Death Row Games,” says Yariv Milchan, New Regency chairman and CEO. “The launch of ‘In Time’ marks the start of a groundbreaking journey into immersive storytelling. We have long admired Snoop’s remarkable and varied body of work, his ongoing creative journey, and have deep respect for what he and Cordell are building at Death Row. This timely and exciting collaboration resonates with our ethos at New Regency.”

“New Regency has produced some of my favorite films, so working with Yariv and his team has been seamless,” adds Cordell Broadus, Death Row Games CEO. “They understand that UEFN is at the heart of the creator economy. When we built the Tee Grizzley map, we wanted to depict spaces that resonate emotionally with our culture. This partnership allows us to bring that same authenticity to the Fortnite world and ensure cultural representation within IP integration.”

We look forward to seeing what New Regency title they adapt next. You can check out the trailer for 2011’s “In Time” below:
