On November 22, Disney announced that Muppet*Vision 3D is closing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This revolutionary interactive film experience will end to make way for the Monstropolous attraction in Monsters, Inc. Land, which was announced at D23 2024. Disney Parks will be moving elements of Muppet*Vision 3D to replace Aerosmith at the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster.

The attraction was the last project Jim Henson worked on before he passed away in 1990.

“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” Walt Disney World’s park blog announcement reads. “Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”

“In the meantime, there’s still enough time to catch a super-stretch limo to the Forum to enjoy Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith and catch Muppet*Vision 3D again before their final curtain calls. As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”

    The Jim Henson Company’s Response

Given the project’s significance, The Jim Henson Company had some thoughts on its closure. On November 24th, the company posted to social media with a lengthy explanation of what made Muppet*Vision 3D so innovative and special.

“As we learn of the show’s upcoming closure in its current form at Disney’s Hollywood Studios , we look forward to Muppet*Vision 3D’s next act,” the post closes.

We look forward to seeing the reimagined ride as well. We’ll keep you posted on updates about the changes to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as they develop. You can read The Jim Henson Company’s full response below:
