Emmy-nominated director Hiro Murai (“Mr. and Mrs. Smith”) will be making his feature film debut with “Bushido.” The upcoming samurai movie will be directed by Murai from a script by Henry Dunham (“The Standoff at Sparrow Creek”). The project is financed by A24, in partnership with Square Peg and 2AM.

This early into production specific plot details are still under wraps. It is being reported that “Bushido” will be a high-stakes action film set in feudal Japan.

“Bushido” will be produced by Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen for Square Peg, along with Julia Oh, Christine D’Souza Gelb, and David Hinojosa for 2AM.

Murai has previously mostly worked on projects for the small screen like FX’s “Atlanta,” starring Donald Glover. In 2019, he directed and executive produced the film “Guava Island” co-starring Glover and Rihanna. Not to mention his work on Amazon’s “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” series adaptation, alongside several Childish Gambino music videos including the Grammy-winning “This Is America.”

He is also an executive producer on Fx’s “The Bear.”

We’ll keep you posted on updates about “Bushido” as they become available.
