Anna Kendrick’s Serial Killer Flick “Woman of The Hour” Gets Trailer

Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (“Up in the Air”) is making her directorial debut with Netflix’s “Woman of the Hour.” Following September’s teaser, the streamer just released the first full trailer. Which gives a completely different perspective on the film.

While the teaser is dark and moody, it mostly shows Sheryl Bradshaw (Kendrick) on the date from hell in a tacky tropical-themed bar, with a man growing increasingly more menacing. The full trailer for “Woman of The Hour” looks more light and campy, while keeping the ominous tone.

It shows the struggling 20-something actress land a guest spot on the 1970s series “The Dating Game.” As she asks each of the three possible suitors “What are girls for?,” We see the first two strike out intercut with footage of a man seemingly killing a woman in the desert. When she gets to bachelor number three we see it’s the same man.

Unfortunately for Sheryl, the game show matched her with ruthless serial killer Rodney Alcala, played by Daniel Zovatto, better known as The Dating Game Killer. “Woman of the Hour” is inspired by the true story of Cheryl Bradshaw who was matched up with Alcala on the show, but later rejected him because he gave her “a bad feeling.”

The film seeks to focus on the lives Alcala cut short, unlike other Netflix properties like “Monster,” which has come under fire for focusing more on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer than his victims.

Kendrick and Zovatto will star alongside Tony Hale (“Veep”), Nicolette Robinson (“The Affair”),  Autumn Best (“4400”), Kathryn Gallagher (“Spring Awakening”), and Kelley Jakle (“Pitch Perfect”). Kendrick directs from a script by Ian McDonald that landed on the Black List in 2017.

“Woman of the Hour” hits Netflix October 18th. You can check out the new full trailer below:
