Folk heroes truly do live on forever. Amazon-owned MGM+ has just greenlit a new drama series based on the classic Robin Hood legend.

The 10-part series is being developed and written by Jonathan English (“Librarians: The Next Chapter”) and showrunner John Glenn (“SEAL Team”), for Lionsgate Television. Todd Lieberman, Carly Kleinbart, and Nicole Bryant will executive produce for Hidden Pictures.

This version will be a modern take on the iconic tale of an outlaw who steals from the rich to give to the poor.  Following the Norman invasion of England, Rob, the son of a  Saxon forester, and Marian, the daughter of a Norman lord, fall in love. The couple must work together to fight for justice and freedom. And of course, Rob rises as the leader of a band of rebel outlaw, while Marian simultaneously infiltrates the court system. Will their work end royal corruption and bring peace to the land before it’s too late?

A New Take on Robin Hood

“We call MGM+ television for movie lovers and English and Glenn’s Robin Hood is the epitome of our brand promise,” Michael Wright, head of MGM+ said. “This is a new imagining of the classic tale of the roguish outlaw hero who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. It’s an exciting, smart, sweeping, romantic adventure that brings historical authenticity, psychological depth, and a heightened focus on the relationship between Rob and Marian to the beloved story.”

“Robin Hood is a global brand and a story we’ve both been obsessed with since our youth,” added English and Glenn. “We are truly honored to have partnered with MGM+, Lionsgate and Todd, to bring this classic story back to life.”

The upcoming Robin Hood series will begin production in Serbia at PFI Studios in February 2025. And set to debut on MGM+ later on next year. We’ll keep you posted on updates as it develops. and leave you with a trailer for the best adaptation so far:
