Director Michael Bay (“Transformers”) will be coming to a television screen near you with his new show based on Vault Comics’ “Barbaric.” The upcoming Netflix series will star Sam Claflin (“Peaky Blinders”) and Sir Patrick Stewart (“Star Trek”). The project is currently being developed by A+E Studios.

The series will be written and executive produced by Sheldon Turner (“X-Men: First Class”).

The  “Barbaric” comics are an acerbic fantasy series launched in 2021. Written by Michael Moreci and brought to life by artist Nathan Gooden, it centers around a talking demonic axe and Owen, a barbarian looking for redemption. The books became wildly popular and have been translated into six languages. It even has its own spin-off, “Queen of Swords”

Claflin will star as Owen while Stewart will voice the demonic axe. A role we can all agree Stewart was born to play.

Executive producers include Jennifer Klein for 100% Productions, as part of a first-look deal with A+E. Alongside F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel of Vault Comics, and Claflin via his production company Cusp Films with Luke Carroll and Michael Stevenson. Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson of A+E Studios are also a part of the executive production team.

Currently, there is no set release date for “Barbaric.” We’ll keep you posted on updates as they become available. You can grab the first volume of the comics here.
