Man Virtually Attends Hearing for Suspended License While Driving

A clip of a rather strange court proceeding is going viral this week. Michigan resident Corey Harris attended a court hearing via Zoom regarding his suspended driver’s license. The issue? He was clearly driving a car on the call!

The clip originates from a live-streamed court session from May 15th. The video shows an assistant public defender letting Judge J Cedric Simpson, know that her client “should be present via Zoom.” Soon after, Harris pops up and you can clearly see the interior of his car and a seatbelt across his chest. While the visual evidence is damning, the shocked judge asks; “Mr Harris, are you driving?”

“Actually, I’m pulling into my doctor’s office actually, so just give me a second,” the defendant responded. Struggling to process what just happened Judge Simpson shakes his head and tosses his pen off camera.

After a few seconds, the judge asks if he is “stationary. “I’m pulling in right now at this second,” Harris says, with a tone that’s verging on annoyed.

“So maybe I don’t understand something,” Judge Simpson asks Harris’ legal counsel. “This is a driver with a license suspended.”

    “Yes, your honor,” she responds.

“He was just driving, and he didn’t have a license,” says Simpson. All while looking at Harris’ record to confirm that he in fact DOESN’T have a driver’s license.

This exchange is when Harris realizes he made a horrible error and his mouth goes agape.

“I don’t even know why he would do that,” Simpson says, shaking his head in disbelief.

    The (Not So) Shocking Verdict

The judge proceeded to tell the courtroom that Harris would turn himself in at the county jail that night. “Oh my god,” Harris whispers as the full consequences of his actions hit him like a ton of bricks.

The internet is already making reaction memes of both the judge’s stunned reaction and Harris’ slack-jawed shock at his blunder.
