Christian Slater to Play Dexter’s Father in Prequel Series

It’s been a good long while since got to talk about “Dexter.“ After the show ended in 2013, there was a lot of divisiveness about the ending. Ultimately it turned out to be a natural lead in to a revival that we got to watch in the tail end of 2021 called, “Dexter: New Blood.” While that seemed to be the definitive conclusion to the franchise, it turned out there was more to tell in the form of Dexter’s early years. The last we heard of the project, “Dexter: Original Sin,” was back in 2023, but now we’ve got a killer update in the form of some cast announcements.

Christian Slater will be aking on the role of Dexter’s adoptive father, Harry Morgan. Previously the character was portrayed by James Remar in flashbacks to Dexter’s formative days and also as an imagined figure that would “haunt” Dexter in a way. But that’s a longer story about Dexter’s ghosts or passengers that a Wiki fan page would be better suited to. Here we have a story set in Dexter’s youth with Harry very much alive and very much Christian Slater.

In the role of young Dexter is Irish actor, Patrick Gibson. While not incredibly well known in the states, he could be most recently seen in the 2023 Australian film, “The Portable Door” and the short-lived Netflix series, “Shadow and Bone.” At 29 years old and fresh faced, he easily looks the part for the part of life we’ll be seeing Dexter at. An exact character age hasn’t been given, but we do know the plot will involve Dexter getting an internship at the police department; a location where he’d ultimately end up working in the original series.

“Dexter: Original Sin” would continue with SHOWTIME’s plan to remain relevant by focusing entirely on that franchise. Yes, that statement is hyperbole, but not really far from reality either. Showtime has been struggling and in terms of streaming has been reduced to an addendum to Paramount+. Incidentally, that’s where the show will be airing, Paramount+ with Showtime, later in 2024. Whether it will be successful or not is another story, considering “Dexter: New Blood” ended on a potentially more divisive note than even the original series did. Surely there will be more drips of blood, err, information leading up to its release date. We’ll keep you posted.
