Sometimes a limited series is so captivating and executed so well that fans often wish for more seasons. And FX’s “Shōgun” happens to be one of those series. The show based on James Clavell‘s 1975 novel by the same name, hooked watchers and became extremely popular. It even became FX’s “most watched show ever” in terms of global hours streamed. We have good news for fans, there is more on the way!

“Shōgun” is being renewed for seasons 2 and 3. With the addition of the extra seasons, the series is also changing their Emmy category from Limited Series to Drama. Showrunner and co-creator Justin Marks had been slowly planting the notion to do more episodes.

“I wish we could live in a world where we don’t have to build a factory just to pump out 10 cars and then close it up, you know?” Marks said. “I think right around Episode 5 is where there was this brief glimmer of like, ‘Gosh, we could just keep doing this.’ Like anything good, you want it to last longer.” It is expected Marks and co-creator Rachel Kondo will return for the additional seasons. They will be joined by fellow executive producer Michaela Clavell and series star and producer Hiroyuki Sanada.

The writing room is currently assembling and is expected to start this summer. Marks is already back in Japan working on season 2.

“Shōgun” is currently streaming on Hulu. We’ll let you know what we hear about this and other news.
