Annette Bening Joins Bride of Frankenstein Movie

Oscar and Tony Award nominee Annette Bening will be joining the cast of a currently untitled Frankenstein film. This project is not to be confused with the “Frankenstein” film from Guillermo del Toro, which stars Jacob Elordi. The film Bening is involved with has been kicking around for a bit and was even a go at Netflix for awhile. But it is now greenlit through Warner Bros. Pictures with plans to begin shooting in the near future.

Jessie Buckley, “The Lost Daughter” Netflix

Bening will be joining the already-established cast of Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard. Both Bale and Buckley were in talks long before the now-resolved, WGA and SAG labor strikes began. Just to give a sense of how long this project has been in the works.

This untitled film will follow a lonely Frankenstein (Buckley) as he travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of Dr. Euphronius, to create a companion for him. The two re-animate a murdered young woman, giving rise to the Bride of Frankenstein. The issue is, that she is beyond what either of them intended. This ignites a combustible romance that grabs the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.

The movie is being produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren. Executive Producers include Courtney Kivowitz and Carla Raij. It’s possible Gyllenhaal will direct, but there isn’t any confirmation on that yet.

This project is part of a larger initiative by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group’s Co-Chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy to build upon the studio’s track record with female filmmakers. A logical step to take, since Greta Gerwig directed the “Barbie” movie grossing the studio well over a billion dollars last year.

We will keep you posted on updates about this and other news as soon as they become available.
