Nick Frost Joins “How To Train Your Dragon” Live-Action

Okay, we’re sad this one Viking role won’t be played by his voice performer in the upcoming live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon.” Gobber, the blacksmith who created Hiccup’s prosthetic leg (among other things) was voiced in the original films by our favorite former late night host, Craig Ferguson. Sadly, Craig will not be joining the live-action flick like Gerard Butler is, but we know who will be playing the character.

Nick Frost, co-star of the famed Cornetto Trilogy, will play Gobber the Belch, trusted friend and advisor to Stoick the Vast (Butler), leader of the Vikings of Berk. In the later animated films, it’s revealed that Gobber is actually gay. No word on if that will be a part of the live-action, though.

Frost joins Butler, Mason Thames (“The Black Phone“) who is playing Hiccup, and Nico Parker (“The Last of Us“) who is playing Astrid.  Dean DeBlois will direct.

Last we heard, the film had been delayed from it’s original March 14th, 2025 release to June 13th, 2025.

Mary Anne Butler (Mab) has been part of the fast-paced world of journalism since she was 15, getting her start in album reviews and live concert coverage for a nationally published (print) music magazine. She eventually transitioned to online media, writing for such sites as UGO/IGN, ComicsOnline, Geek Magazine, Ace of Geeks, Aggressive Comix (where she is still Editor-in-Chief), Bleeding Cool (where she was News Editor), and now Nerdbot as Editor-In-Chief. Over the past 10 years, she’s built a reputation at conventions across the globe as a cosplayer (occasionally), photographer (constantly), panelist and moderator (mostly), and reporter (always). Interviews, reviews, observations, breaking news, and objective reporting are the name of the game for the founder of Harkonnen Knife Fight, a Dune-themed band with an international presence. Though she be but little, she is fierce.
